Soomro accused of expropriation by stepmother
ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Prime Minister and the Senate Chairman Muhammadmian Soomro’s stepmother on Friday alleged that he was trying to defraud her of her share in the family property and threatening her to back down on it.
Addressing a press briefing at Rawalpindi-Islamabad Press Club Camp office here, Sarwatun Nisa said that 35 years ago she had married Soomro’s father Ahmadmian Soomro, who distributed his property among the family members before his death. Nisa said she and her daughter inherited a luxury flat to which they shifted after Ahmedmian’s death.
She alleged that Soomro had harassed her when he was Sindh governor. She said a sister of Muhammadmian Soomro had offered to purchase the disputed flat, whose price after arbitration by the then deputy commissioner was put at Rs 2.8 million. Nisa said she was paid Rs1.4 million, while the remaining Rs1.4 million was yet to be paid.
Nisa said she had also discovered a family house valuing Rs 9 million and a huge estate but the caretaker prime minister was threatening her with dire consequences if she did not back down on the property. She further alleged that Soomro had been indicted and imprisoned for a month for bank fraud while employed in a Yemen-based American bank. She demanded that the government provide her security. staff report
